GM intended for us to have resto-modded Fieros.

Let them laugh. The transverse LS4 that came about with the Impala SS and Grand Prix GXP will drop in. The C4 Corvette's rear end (positraction Dana 44) bolts right in along with the batwing and even the C5's transaxle. The Saturn Sky interior can take the place of the old one even! Koni sells a full suspension kit—and sway bars, poly bushings are available. Some good wheels and sticky rubber and we're talking about a serious track machine that's pleasant to be in!

Kinja'd!!!

This really needs to happen, guys.

Fiero 3.8 sc swap is on my automotive bucket list.

That would also be fun. Very parts interchangability.

Using Pontiac's Performance Counter in the 80s, you could build a 330 HP 3.2 four cylinder called the SD4 based off the Iron Duke.

This is similar to the one used in the real Indy 500 pace car.

Cosworth also made a 16 valve head for the Iron Duke.

In the deepest, darkest corners of the internet one can hear hushed whispers of Northstars being put in with no significant amount of effort.

Yeah, the Tech4 IIRC. It would've been kind of hard to justify a Corvette because of it. Very cool and overlooked fact!

Saw a red one today, was reminded of how good these look.

Would be a really good application for the Northstar. What an overlooked platform.

They are such a rare spot that you eventually take the internet's word that they're repulsive.

I think the tech 4 was an iron duke with distributorless ignition.

I was referring to an over-the-counter crate motor that didn't come in the production cars, but was made by Pontiac anyway.

It was the SD4, presumably standing for super duty.

Go on YouTube. Type "Northstar Fiero".

I'd kind of mixed up the fiero trivia over the years. Now I know what you're talking about. Yeah, the tech 4 wasn't anything special but the SD4 is awesome!

Oh wouldn't say that so much as I hardly see 'em. This one was a bright red later model with the long buttresses.

Have you ever been in or near a Fiero though? They're quite tiny. A V8 like that might be too much engine for the car.

Speaking of interiors, did you hear about the guy who put a Miata interior in his Fiero?

I don't actually get to thinking such things, but they are certainly a pleasant surprise to see in person. I can't decide whether I like the early models or the GTs more, but they both have clean styling.

they don't mount "right in" engine, trans, radiator, diff mounts still have to be made don't they? Let's not start with ecu shenanigans

Apparently the diff does, but of course the engine will take some work to fit in there. There are full kits online for swapping at reasonable prices. The Getrag 5 speed transaxle apparently can handle the power with a beefed up clutch and extra cooling.

I saw/heard an OHV V-8 (of course it must have been an SBC) Fiero rumbling down I-440 a few months ago. It was somewhere in between primered and "murdered". Made me laugh.

Mmmmmm, good. The Northstar is the second best sounding American V-8 (in my book). The Coyote sits atop them all to my ears.
